New Year, New You?

New Year, New You?

Sound familiar? If you think the new year is the best time to get into some fitness you may be right. If you ask us we will say the best time is now! But we are a little biased. Or is it because we know that the longer you wait the harder it could be. Consider this, breaking habits, good or bad, takes at least 30 days for most people. Add to that the fact that we will have to approach one habit at a time in order to NOT overwhelm you. We are now possibly talking about a six month commitment! Seems daunting right? Well without help it can be–the good thing is that you have us! We make this stuff simple, and accessible.

The hardest part about our job is forcing you to be disciplined. Sure it seems like that would be easy–being here whenever you need us as early as 5:00am till 9:00 at night. And that’s for the people that actually show up! Plus being energetic and informative with every client during our work and that takes a lot of discipline. Do we still have a lot to learn? Yes! We continue in our education for you, because we want you to have the best understanding of what we want you to do. We only have one hour to give you the best workout possible and motivate you to not fail with food when you are not here. Sometimes it’s a wonder it works at all…

If you want a new you, remember these keys to success.

1. Discipline
2. Research
3. Commitment
4. Willingness to surrender your pride
5. Honesty

We will give the foundations of nutrition and slowly feed you more information as we feel you are understanding it. I want you to succeed! That means in 3-6 months you just need me to give you the best work out I can while you teach others all that you’ve learned from us.

Taking walks and standing up frequently are other great ways to mix it up while at the office.

Why We Do What We Do

Why We Do What We Do

I love to tell people that my job is to maximize their whole health, with weight loss being one of the primary benefits. I know that sounds kind of cheesy, but I assure you, if you can follow some basic guidelines and do your research, then you will have success. For some it comes faster than it does for others, but either way you are doing more for your body than over half the population.

We do things raw, organic, and living, because our bodies are made for that–not the sterile, white, and lifeless food we have come to know. These raw, organic, whole foods are loaded with health benefits. A few of the key ones that I have experienced are these: way more energy, less sickness (once or less a year), no joint pain, faster healing time, and the ability to mold and shape my body the way I want to. Other benefits I see in my clients are: medication reduction or discontinuation, significant weight loss, less joint pain, increased strength and flexibility, not to mention–happiness. But the last one could be because they get to see me everyday… :)

Teaching someone how to do health and fitness is our goal and my passion, as a matter of fact, I have a hard time turning “it” off. I love talking about how good kombucha is for you, or how you can beat a cold when it isn’t even here yet. I get a kick out of showing people that have spent a lifetime doing things the conventional way in the sports nutrition field and totally change their bodies with raw foods. Watching them beat their perceptions is amazing, especially after they have been told no, or that they can’t.

A lot of what we teach is common sense when it comes to food–not the hype like TV, Jillian Michaels, or People Magazine throw at you that doesn’t stack up or is too much work. Is learning this work? You betcha! As you become more acclimated to it the process becomes far less time consuming and way more fun.

Everything worth doing takes work, if it is easy, stay away from it.

We do this because we love people, we love our clients and want them to feel as good as we do and share it with their friends and family. Change your family tree, do something that will give you and your family abundant life. Ask us and we will help you, no matter what the budget or the location. I offer email, phone, and personal support through any means possible.

Body Adiposity Index

Body Adiposity Index

A new obesity scale has been proposed to measure body fat called the Body Adiposity Index, or BAI. The BAI relies on height and hip measurements, and might give a more flexible counterpart to BMI (Body mass index) which is a ratio of height and weight.

BMI is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. There can be some inaccuracies though with BMI since men and women with the same BMI can have varying levels of extra fat. Initial testing shows that using BAI instead has more accurate results across gender and different racial groups.

BAI is a complex ratio of hip circumference to height that can be calculated by doctors or nurses with a computer or calculator. Obesity has become rampant, with about 1 in 10 people worldwide considered to be obese, which is more than twice that of the number in 1980. And so, the fight on obesity continues, hopefully with one more tool in the belt to fight with.

Checkley’s Natural Method of Training – Part 7

Checkley’s Natural Method of Training – Part 7

Finishing up our series from Checkley’s Natural Method of Training, we have some more highlights for you today.

Checkley’s Natural Method of Training
By: Edwin Checkley
Second edition, published 1922, excerpts from pages 135 and 137.

“Of course the best kind of exercise is the exercise the body receives
in performing some useful service
. If a person feels that he is
getting some good out a certain kind if work he has more enjoyment in
that work than if he considered it either harmful labor or labor that
was merely obligatory. It is notorious that men will enter with
enoyment on active sport that makes a considerable demand upon their
strength, when a hod of coal hurts their back, and a little spading in
the garden fills them with aches for a week. As a matter of fact, too,
word done without interest actually strains the body more than work
enthusiastically performed.”

“The tendency of hard exercise is hard muscles, and hard muscles are
bad. The body should remain firm, but pliant and in most parts soft.
It is in the conservation of energy, and not in the prodigal
dissipation of energy, that the greatest strength and endurance of the
body will always lie.
