10 Reasons To Love Tough Mudder

Tough Mudder Nashville

As you all know, we here at Nashville Strength Co. love ourselves an OCR (obstacle race).
They are such a great way to test your will, strength, and fortitude. We have ran our fair share of them and based on our experience, here are some reasons why we think you should love them yourself.

10. Running on dirt, grass, or in mud has way less impact and shock on the body. Less impact means less spinal compression and less injury!

9. Running on dirt, grass, or in mud will make you stronger. As you train on different surfaces, you will build supportive, stabilizing tissue in the ankle and knees that will help keep you from the same old injuries.

8. Running an OCR is so much fun with your friends! All different levels of fitness and ages are welcome as you can help each other out (typically ages 14+).

7. Nature, man–freaking nature. It’s way better than running in the city.

6. Destinations. Our next OCR is Tough Mudder in Lebanon TN, just outside of Nashville. Lebanon is beautiful country and the benefit of Music City, which we call home.

5. Obstacles in your race make your race way more interesting, challenging, and fun.

4. Testing your strength with OCR is a great diagnostic tool. I mean, what’s the point of working out all the time if you can’t do a pull-up or jump a mud hill?

3. OCR swag is way cooler than street races!

2. Tough Mudder was one of the first to races to make OCR’s popular. They know what they are doing and are one of the best out there!

1. Goals. Everyone should be training towards something and running an OCR is a great thing to train for. It will make you evenly strong and ready for whatever life throws your way.

So come run the Nashville Tough Mudder with us in September. Let’s do this!

activation response therapy

We will be hosting Dr. Scott Dunaway from Chirostrength on Thursday December 15, 2016 from 7:00am – 12:00pm. He will be giving away FREE A.R.T (Active Release Technique). Contact us today to schedule or if you have any questions.

Active Release Technique, per Dr. Scott is: “a hands on treatment to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia aimed at improving function of these tissues. This is accomplished by breaking up adhesions in and between these tissues as well as restoring proper blood flow to areas that have become starved of adequate perfusion. With these combined results, the patient will experience decreased tension and tenderness in the muscles and will improve the results seen with the Adjustment.”

Come and check it out and learn more!

guayusa tisane

Guayusa (pronounced gwhy-you-suh) is a small holly tree that grows primarily in Ecuador and is finally coming on the world stage for consumption. Just as many people have heard about Yerba Mate (another Amazonian plant used for herbal teas/infusions) and its stimulating properties, so now guayusa is being enjoyed and shared for its pleasant taste and ability to give energy and focus.

Guayusa has a similar caffeine content to that of coffee and yet because it contains other polyphenols such as theobromine (found in dark chocolate), theophylline (in the caffeine family), and the amino acid L-theanine–the unique combination of these polyphenols helps guayusa pick you up without letting you down (you know, giving you the jitters!). The amino acid l-theanine helps to promote relaxation and calms stress without promoting sleep or tiredness. In addition, guayusa contains 1 1/2 to 2 times the amount of antioxidants found in green tea.

Even better yet, because guayusa doesn’t contain tannins, it lacks the bitter taste that is often associated with a poorly brewed cup of tea or Yerba mate. The taste is smooth and slightly sweet. So if you are a looking for a great replacement for coffee as a pick-me-up that doesn’t contain the mycotoxins of coffee—check out guayusa for your daily energy, mental focus, antioxidant boost. Our friends at The Jam Coffeehouse have organic guayusa as part of their Happy Tea blend and they would be glad to serve you. Also, you can buy guayusa tea (loose leaf and in tea bags) online!
