What it takes!

I would like to give you a perspective to my life as far as training goes.
I spend a lot of my time researching and trying to understand the human body and what make it tick. When I learn something new I try to share it with my family first then to my clients. I have done this time and time again right up until now. Having taken all the information about health, wellness and weight loss (yes in that order). I use them accordingly and with a passion to help people get to their goals with weight loss, then learning that they now know more about life and how to live with a healthy mind and body than they ever thought they would.

This being said I would like to think that I can make the impossible happen even sickness and disease healing. I know that sounds like it is crazy but I truly believe that my God is real and He left us the keys to healthy living and healing through His word.
I know that will make some people feel funny but that is my life and I can say what ever I want, it is my blog. So what does this mean for you?
It means that I will seek and find the best information for you, if you are my client and or if you are my friend it will be obvious that I care about you by giving you a hard time about what you eat, its what I do.

Snack and the Like!

Whether you know about Las Paletas or not, the obvious thing to do about them is to go and eat them. Well, if you don’t know what they are then you might be wondering why you should go and eat them, especially since “paleta” literally translated means “little shovel” or “trowel”. Paletas are popsicles.

When I first came to Nashville, I had some friends who introduced me to one of the best things in Nashville: Las Paletas. They sell gourmet mexican popsicles in numerous original and unique flavors such as plum, hibiscus, tamarind, avocado, basil, coconut, blueberry chocolate chip, rice, chocolate with jalapeno’s, and a myriad of others.

You might be saying to yourself “So what, they’re just popsicles”. This is the very thing I said to myself. I was never really into popsicles, I mean we all had them growing up but you know they never really “did it” for me. Real food just tastes so much better than artificial. So all the artificial flavorings and colorings in the usual popsicle just doesn’t cut it anymore. There are many places to get paletas but many of them use cheap ingredients or pre-packaged mixes and not real fresh fruit. You can definitely taste the difference… well, I can… you may have to practice a bit.

Not only are the popsicles great but so are the people. When you head over to Las Paletas you may meet Norma, Irma, Alma, Amy, Jessica, and… that is all I know of, but there may be more. Like maybe you will meet Peter, who is a huge Las Paletas fan and ended up being there almost every time I was for a while. Many of the times I have gone to the store Amy has been working, so tell her “Tim says hi”. She will probably be like “who?” and act aloof like she doesn’t know me or something.

Las Paletas has no sign and their website is not very informative so I will make sure and give you some details here so you can bookmark this very vital information.

Store hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12-6pm, except during winter months the hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12-5pm… I found this out by making my usual 5:45 run one day and they were closed. I was not happy. Since there is no sign outside it can be hard to find… but only the first time you go, because after that you won’t forget it. Just in case, remember that it is on the northwest corner of 12th Ave S and Kirkwood. You can also just google their address: 2907 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204.

Chicken Wings

Hey All!
I have just had the best chicken wings ever the were made in olive oil with a light wheat flour breading and some home made barbecue sauce.
They were amazing and my wife rocks! If you want the recipe you will have to let me know. I have to go and clean my fingers now and the keyboard.

Understanding under the weatherness

I feel better when I eat really well and over Easter break I went home (back to Ohio) and spent time with my family. I love my family but we don’t eat the same but alas I was subject to their diet because I wanted to be with them. I eat a little the way I wanted to, using caution and with some success. Aside from being tired, my family and I made it back to Nashville in one piece.
Well we got home and then decided to get our diets back on track and eat really well for about three days, it was here where we got cocky. 
We thought we were feeling well when we ate some compromising foods, foods that sent our body scrabbling to digest. Which left our immune systems defenseless hence we got sick and might I add more sick than ever!
We would have been fine had we not been cocky and thought we were doing alright. Your body needs time to digest foods especially those foods that are not foods but chemicals.
We all have moments of pain this was mine. 


They come in many forms and they can be found in almost anything you eat. I would like to run down the list so you can avoid them at all cost.

Antibiotics, chlorine, dead bacteria (from pasteurization), fertilizers, bleaches, pesticides, and thats not all.
Take these and multiply by 20 and you will come close to the amount of concoctions used in our food to either preserve or sterilize our food.
These toxins are impossible for the body to process and as a result they can leak into the blood system and have dyer consequences.
Some will cause cancer while other can make you lose your hearing or worse. And the least of these your body will store in the linings of your gut and your intestines. This will cause weight gain at the very least and can cause a number of other complications such as: sinus trouble, ear infections, colds, the flu, liver disease, and even lung cancer.
Do yourself a favor and get educated so you can understand what you eating and why. It seems like some people care more about what we are doing to the environment  and not what we are doing to our own bodies.
Then there are people that don’t care at all about themselves and the people that surround them, these people will eat anything.

Dangerous Soy!

Hello again, today we will be addressing a common misconception. That’s right, soy the ingredient in a lot of conventional and “healthy” foods. I have been known to be quite opinionated on health related subjects, and of course this will be no exception. I seem to love being healthy and vibrant or something like that. Well it seems to be the latest, greatest thing out there, soy that is. Let me be the first to tell you that it isn’t as great as it has been hailed. I will do my best to tell you why in a short summary of the ingredient. First of all, I call it an ingredient because it has found it’s way into just about everything on the market. From baby formula right down to pig feed. This so called “miracle food” is robbing us of our vitality and is by no means a health food. Although many in the healthcare industry, as well as the “exercise and eat right” community have been singing its praises for a long time. Something about how its good for your heart and can stop cancer, or how soy will aid in muscle growth and bone structure. These statements are very misleading. Soy got its start in the far east, but not as a food. The Chinese actually didn’t eat it for some time. They worked with it till they could get it to sprout and that’s when they started to experiment with soy and its edibility. Back then it was mainly used as a condiment by the Chinese. Even now we have commercialized soy to the extent that it is one of the most genetically modified foods on the market, about 99%. That’s crazy! We have played with the structure of the legume till there is very little nutrition left at all. As a matter of fact the bean itself goes through quite a transformation on its way to your plate. After of course being fertilized and sprayed with insecticides while growing in a conventional field soybeans are then harvested, heated, and stored. Before they can be eaten they have to take a bath… not a bubble bath either. These beans will be washed in acid to remove their “beany” taste. They then are rinsed in an alkaline solution. These two processes should be enough to make you want to stop consuming soy. Additionally, soybeans are further extracted, isolated, refined and then added to many different foods. Today it is being used in everything from oil for margarine, to potato chips, to protein and energy bars, to fish food for our “fresh farmed salmon”. I share this with you so that you will take some time to educate yourself. It seems like we spend too much time in this world running around doing everything for everybody else and we don’t take the time to do what is right for our families and ourselves. A common practice for us should be to take everything we eat (such as soy) as close to it’s natural state as possible, in other words eat it how God gave it to you. Do not mess with anything that has been altered or preserved or that the government calls a super food until you know for yourself that it is safe, besides you don’t like being told what to do anyway. I know I don’t, especially when it comes to food. Now now, after giving you that bit of information, I will tell you that soy can be enjoyed. Just like anything else make sure you get the best quality that you can. This usually means getting organic, non-gmo soy that ideally is sprouted. Just like other grains and beans, soy has a high amount of phytates (enzyme inhibitors) and trypsin inhibitors and so they are much easier to digest when they have been sprouted. Also, if you like soy milk your best option is to make it fresh at home with a press. Not only is store bought soy milk pasteurized but the oils in soy are very perishable and being a vegetable oil can go rancid easily. I would never recommend store bought soy or cows milk for that matter. That is all I have to say about. The subject of health is a passion for me… I love it and I live it. So without sounding to cheesy I will leave now with this… it is safer to smoke a cigarette than to eat one McDonalds French fry, but kids can’t buy cigarettes. Interesting!

Life Giving Food

I have been a fan of and coconut oil so here is the best information on this great fat. From a highly respected doctor.

All fats are not equal.

And just so we’re clear, the terms “fats” and “oils” are often used interchangeably, but fat is more correctly considered solid at room temperature, while oils are liquid. But what’s really important is the structure.

The unique health benefits of coconut oil are directly related to its chemical structure, or more precisely, the length of its fatty acid chains.

Coconut oil is comprised of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), also called medium-chain triglycerides or MCTs.

Coconut oil is nature’s richest source of these healthy MCFAs.

By contrast, most common vegetable or seed oils are comprised of long chain fatty acids (LCFAs), also known as long-chain triglycerides or LCTs.

There are several reasons to explain why these long-chain fatty acids are not as healthy for you as the MCFAs in coconut oil:

  • LCFAs are difficult for the body to break down ‚Äî they must be packaged with lipoproteins or carrier proteins and require special enzymes for digestion.
  • LCFAs put more strain on the pancreas, the liver and the entire digestive system.
  • LCFAs are predominantly stored in the body as fat. (That’s why most people buy into the myth that fats are automatically “fattening”.)
  • LCFAs can be deposited within arteries in lipid forms such as cholesterol.

On the other hand, however, the MCFAs in coconut oil are more health-promoting, because:

  • MCFAs are smaller. They permeate cell membranes easily, and do not require lipoproteins or special enzymes to be utilized effectively by your body.
  • MCFAs are easily digested, thus putting less strain on your digestive system. This is especially important for those of you with digestive or metabolic concerns.
  • MCFAs are sent directly to your liver, where they are immediately converted into energy rather than being stored as fat.
  • MCFAs in coconut oil can actually help stimulate your body’s metabolism, leading to weight loss.
Now you can see why I recommend this product so much. But you must remember that the highest quality will benefit you more because it is not stripped down. Organic, extra virgin, unrefined coconut oil and make sure it hasn’t been heated.
