Bonnaroo: Ideas For Staying Healthy While Away

best personal trainerLife is all about balance. You want to be as healthy as you can, but you also want to live your life and enjoy the things you always have. You don’t have to give up everything you love to become a healthier person. For example, I went to Bonnaroo recently and have the previous three years as well. It is an experience unlike any other, and I would hate to miss the wonderful time with my friends because I can’t bring my juicer. You do the best you can while you’re there, then detox and rejuvenate afterwards.

Bonnaroo is really, really hot. So you need lots and lots of water, whether you are living a healthy life or not. I probably drank more water than usual. I also brought a couple coconut waters. My friends brought Gatorade, which we shun here at Life Fitness Academy because it is full of sugar and artificial colors. Coconut water is nature’s Gatorade. Since it’s so hot, you want to eat cold and juicy things like fruit. Fruit is hydrating and contains tons of vitamins and minerals for replenishing what you lose in the heat. We had watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches and pineapple to share with the group. I roasted a chicken before we left and had chicken wraps for lunch most days. We put hummus, veggies, salsa and cheese in the wrap. I also made quinoa brownies to share. We brought Larabars to eat in a hurry and put in our bags to take into the shows. We dipped the veggies in the hummus for a snack as well. I brought kefir waters to mix with my alcohol and to get probiotcs while I was drinking. My friend brought naturally fermented pickles to snack on, so there was another source of probiotics. We soaked one of the pineapples in vodka to eat on the last day. No sugary mixers for me!

My essential oils were a big help as well. My friends laugh at me and my “gypsy oils,” but every single one of them asked for peppermint oil for their headache at some point. We made use of the bug repellant one, too. I used the one called “On Guard” as hand sanitizer. It kills bad germs without stripping your skin with alcohol like in most sanitizers. It made using the port-o-potties a tiny bit more bearable. We used lime oil in some of our drinks. Since I’ve been home, I’ve been liberally applying oils in hopes of preventing sickness and to help rebalance my body. Oregano goes on my feet to combat any infections, along with On Guard. Lavender helps me sleep better so I can recover. Lemon, orange or lime in water helps detox from the inside out. Frankincense is very anti-inflammatory so that helps with any lingering aches and pains.

This first week that I’ve been home I’ve been trying to focus on getting as many nutrients back in my body as I can. I’ve been having a lot of smoothies, avocados, fruits, vegetables and nuts. I plan some sort of cleanse in the coming weeks to undo any damage. I think another parasite cleanse is in order as well. You never know what you might have picked up… I also was fortunate enough to receive a massage, which releases toxins as well as relieve muscle tension from sleeping on the ground.

It is not always necessary to be extremely rigid and strict with your diet. It’s about time and place. If you slack off due to vacations, travel or just being too busy, don’t beat yourself up about it. Just try to correct the imbalances you feel when you get the time again. You know you can enjoy life to the fullest when you feel your best, and when you eat better, you feel better. You can feel better about taking a few days off if you know what to do to bounce back to your normal self quickly. Make cleansing a part of your lifestyle and constantly be improving yourself.
