While testing the packaging of fresh chicken at many of Britain’s leading supermarkets, tests carried out by an independent laboratory found campylobacter contamination all over the outside. Out of twenty samples, eight were found to be contaminated. Seven of the samples contained the pathogen in the meat itself.

A surprising fact was that there was no link between the campylobacter found in the meat and the campylobacter found on the packaging, a find which suggests that the contamination happened between packaging and distribution.

It is exactly studies like this one that should encourage you to do several things including:

1. Getting better quality chicken – preferably pastured poultry
2. Boosting your immune system to be better prepared against an attack from bad bacteria by having a gut that has lots of good bacteria.
